The Language of :MYTH:


I rarely find the need to explain myself and my personal set of beliefs to others, and this is because it does not happen on a daily basis. No matter where you go, you will always be surrounded by other people who are alien to you, and for myself, living on the road constantly, forming clear and coherent relationships in a short amount of time becomes a giant of a task to accomplish. The force of tremendous burden I feel when interacting with the vast populus is astonishing. For I feel my words and meanings stifled and caged inside a potential arena of understanding. I am forced to alter the sentiments of my explanations to be compatible with the nullified minds of most societal members, who prescribe to a submissive language foreign to my own. When I hold verse with someone who asks me what my thoughts are on the world and its residents, I feel unable to react in a way that they may either find offensive, or impossible to comprehend with their small minds. But rarely, I do meet a soul who understands the language of mythology, and the mead of poetry and speech flows freely from the yawning gap of my wodened spirit. So I want to talk a little bit about this syntaxical tradition, of the story and the saga, cultured through my own mythology the way I know how.

The difficulty with suckling from the wolf of tradition that I belong to, is most of the time when I explain something, people either don’t know what the fuck I am trying to say or pass me for some kind of savage or dreamer. I want to explain a little bit about how I percieve my place in life, and the rest of the cosmos. Without too much flame and more fire, I see life as a cyclical experience, in that it does not begin or end, and the collective well of human experience here in midgard will be known both by its ancestors and its descendants. Whatever thought slithered through the mind of some sea-roving Viking as he decided to leave his familiar home and sail west over unknown waters, purely to see what was there was a relic of courage, and perserverance. About a thousand years later, the same thoughtforms now come to me, and a pattern of existence re-wove itself into the fabric of my wyrdstrings. I see action existing in profane time, while experience existing in sacral time. What we do now adds to the summation of all past and present becoming because it changes the hamingja of the people we belong to, our family, our brothers, our tribe. I see time as a story, that can be pick up around a fire from any point in the narrative, and still hold the attention of its observers. Those I can call allies in this short fleeting existence, :k:now what there is to know, in a way that all knowledge is a tool for making oneself their own legend. Before one is a king, he is a peasant. The language will vary from culture to country, and people to place, but usually this alter-native code of communication is either enforced upon them by some backwards religion, or pitifully adopted from the dregs of this technological unintelligent epoch, where people can’t even speak to each other in person, or speak two sentences of proper English, because its all translated through digital memes, texting and bastardized words. The way I see it, is there is only one sun, but there are a thousand ways of calling the sun. This is an old Norse bardic trick, called a kenning. The symbols of the sun are many and it has a direct and lasting impact upon the ways we choose to approach our understanding of it, this is the very essence of mythology. For those who go beyond.

There is a section in the Havamal where Othin is giving rede to a young man, and says something like “Speak wise words, or none at all”, and I think there is some serious merit in that. Every bone, nerve and sinew of my body is made to serve my highest potential of becoming. We are the sharpened edge of the sword, the latest representatives of our race. We are also the anvil on which our lives are shaped, the hammer that works the hot metal into existence, and the strong hand the forged it from the furnace of our burning hearts. I understand the sounds of the Germanic tongue, and the sagas and stories that were preserved in the eddas and poems for example, and it is important for each man, and woman to have their own mythology in this life in order to thrive. When I talk about Odin, sure I am talking about a man named Odin, that lived and died as a mortal long before my flickering time, and that is inspiring to me, because in that, we share death in common. He was a man who made his name important, he saw the need that led to deed. When I talk about the Mead of Life or Jormundgandr, I am again referencing ideas that may or may not relegate to everyone in the same way, but also and more integrally, they are archetypes of united principles and psychological relics of what our ancestors believed in as well. They stood for something, again, they were important concepts. The way the :Runes: are like a periodical table of the spiritual and cosmological elements. Names and words do have exact meaning, but they are not bound to fact. Instead they must be inherited and sprouted with one’s own TRUTHS. Thor didn’t pull the Midgardsormr out of the lake because he wanted it for dinner, he did it because he is Thor, and proved that he could do better than any normal limited man. His ability is transcendant it represents someting above what is believed to be possible.

I see my time here as a responsibility, as my wyrd is tested and proven through direct action meeting will, fire and ice, consumation and gestation or reflection. These may only be my 80 years of budding life, as the living Ygg tree, while everyday I feed myself back to the serpent eating the roots of what I was yesterday, for today I lift my head through the canopy of the branches with the four harts and eat of the highest leaves, so I can grow, reap, rise and repeat. When I speak of myth, I speak of :M:an, and his place in life where he sees a tree, a woman, a wild animal, a tool, and he understand it to the core of his who he is, for when his universe chose to think of giants, trolls, Asgard and Ragnarok, it chose to think of him as well.

That language which a modern moden cannot penetrate, and science proves only to make a mash of, is the communication directly with our ancestors, through the shamanic knowing of the shared divine. I believe that our ancestors lived in a completely different world than us, one interpreted now through a mytho-poetical lens, and one closer to the supernatural and divinity. This mythological language is blurry to us moderns, but I believe that sentiment is carried even through the ages, and the language of our forefathers, of their gods and ways, is worthy of cultivation, as our current tongue becomes so far removed from the Germanic branching source, that remembers story, and the visceral connection with myth.

Runaz Sternō Skiwô

This is the second promo for the Runic star map, which has come to include the planisphere style chart, and several Eddaic heroes and characters. I have cut a section out to see. The book and map may likely have release WotanKlan, but plans are pending, and until then is self published. The final title is ‘Runaz Sternō Skiwô‘ (RUNA Star Sky) written by me :Ulvseiðmenn:

Tiwaz (T): The left hand of the Orion constellation, starting with Bellatrix, as the line of the :T: rune, drawing out to Pi3 Orionis (end of the bow), and the two downward tines at Rho Orionis, and 16Orionis, slightly skewed apart. In the times when the chief god was spoken of differently depending on which tribe you talked to, or which geographical region you belonged, it is entirely possible that the symbol associated with Tyr, as the revered he-man would be represented in Orion as well. Something intriguing is the way Thurisaz rune is in the right hand of the man. The ‘right wing’ of justice which stands for the social elites, and a fundamental inequality (The behavior of Thor eloquently displays this), while the Tiwaz gavel/Tyrs tool is in the left hand, left wing, which symbolizes the equality, and fairness of the people, of which Tyr is the prospecting ‘judge’.

Ulfs Keptr or Wolfsrachen: in the Hyades star cluster is fairly recognizable V-shape like the maw of a wolf. It is near the ecliptic. It could be viewed as Hati or Skoll, chasing the sun/moon or Fenrir, with his mouth held open by a sword, and the Milky Way frothing out of it.

Nidhoggr: Scorpius -Like the serpent, a long constellation. With its tail in the south and its head in the north dragging the men down and eating their corpses. It is surrounded also by the Lupus (Vargr), the eagle and raptor, and world serpent constellation, surely the Nifl-dwelling of the sky.

Runic Celestia

The runic constellatory map is in it’s final stages and will see a Yule release around January 10. I am editing it, adding some myth and lore, and creating the map, which I plan to be a large resolution,and laminated. There will be the shortt book to accompany the map, cover will be designed by me, still looking for a release, possibly through WotanKlan. Here are a couple demos of the runic asterisms I have come up with and a bit more of the texts included.

The Principles of Ase and Thursian Power in the Multiverse (more like a very short story)
The universe is currently expanding, and matter is spreading farther and farther apart. The gravitational force, and contracting force that is predicted by some astronomists is Thor’s force, of pulling energy and physicality back together. Freyr’s force is the equilibrium or the state of stillness at any one time, existing in balance throughout the universe. Odin-Freyr-Thor is the explosion, stillness and contraction. Thor’s gravity, is still too weak to overcome Odin’s outbursting energy, and Odin is still chief god, until Ragnarok (cyclic apocalypse) ensues and Thor will destroy entropic forces and become stronger than Odin for awhile. The moment in between is when an equal amount of force will be exerted in both directions, and thus be a natural balance which is Freyr’s force. Traveling from one universe to an entirely different plane of existence, or tangent of the nine is the vitki faring with the fetch. They are distanced from both time, and structure because the fetch only travels in the astral dimension. The black holes are the destructive, Hel forces, the children of Loki that swallow up matter. The Jormungand serpent, and it’s coil spiralling inwards, the gaping maw of the Fenris wolf. The Bifrost is described as shimmering (bif), and road (rost), and Heimdall dwells at the top. Seen from the longitude of Icelanders in the North, Heimdallr is at the top of the Milky Way, and it’s road is leading down to the underworld. But in the long dark season when the sun barely rises, there are no rainbows, and for someone in southern Norway at the same time would not see the Milky Way as Bifrost, but instead the rainbow.

Here are two rune constellations from the book.

Ansuz: * stave map in Perseus* Perseus is one of the heros, a highborn character who in the myths eventually slew a sea-beast. Like Thor who had slain the sea serpent. Thor is of the Aesir, and Ansuz refers to this rank. The godly/hero types that are greater than common man. In the Perseus constellation. Start at the bottom of the stave from Epsilon Persei, working up to Mirfak and Eta Persei. The two tines, starting with the upper one, going down from Eta persei to Theta Persei. From Mirfak, down to Kappa Persei. Optionally to go one up from Theta to Phi Persei for the Anglo Saxon version of Ansuz.

Perthro: stave in Crater* word meaning cup, the one belonging to Apollo. Apollo was an oracular god, a patron of the Delphic Oracle. I associate Perthro with time, occultation, and the life game or the wyrd. The fates and secrets of becomings that few only know save for the volvas, norns, seers and possibly shamans. The cup is handled by a crow used to fetch water for Apollo, it gets lazy and takes back a water snake, and angers him, then is thrown into the sky. The cup is the container of liquid which nourishes Apollo’s visionary prophecies. Like in Teutonic custom, the cup takes on the use of a casting device, or tool for divination. Starting the stave from Theta Crateris, bending in to Delta Crateris, then to Alkes, at one corner of the constellation. Drawing the vertical stave down to Beta Crateris, bend in to Gamma Crateris, and end at Zeta Crateris.
Naglfar: The ship made of dead man’s nails, Corona Australis shaped as the boat. Again, only located in the Southern hemisphere where the ship pyre carrying the dead travels. The ancient Indo-European/Aryan mythos of the boat that goes beyond the horizon, and symbolizes death.

Mjöllnir: The pleiades with a short handle made of the stars Plejone and Atlas, the nearby stars. The Pleiades are in the Taurus constellation. The handle is short on the hammer because in the myth, one of the dwarves, Brokkr, was distracted by Loki disguised as a fly while they were forging it. He stopped blowing the bellows and Eitri removed it seeing it was too short. When the Pleiades (thor’s hammer) rises in the east, the Jotun realm sets on the opposite side of the sky. During the twilight of the gods, Thor’s hammer leaves the sky, along with Hydra/Jormungand.

Rune Star Map and Viking Astronomy

Norse made contact with Greece in the 11th Century (1010) when Vikings from Stockholm, known as Varangians, came into the Byzantine emperor and surpassed the bodygaurds.The scholars of the mid-11th century note their presence in the literature. The rune carvings on an the Peiraieus lion statue prove that the Norse did enter, the names  Ulf, Asmund, Örn, Asgeir, Thorleif, Thord, Ragnar, Egil and Dalk are inscribed there. Whether their short time around the Greeks had any cultural impacf on them is speculative. But the Norsemen also had access to European culture through travel, trade and tribal ties and influence from Shamanic culture, and must have preserved some oral history of the star knowledge themselves from earlier Aryan or Frankish populations .

554983_388366794600197_624085491_nThe constellation names, and organization of the celestial vault into symbolic thought and myth far outdates the Greek representation, that is only the most popular. Archaeology has studied strange discorrelated markings in a cave at Lascaux, France resembling the Pleiades which lies near the Hyades. It seems probable that as with the animals they hunted, our ancient ancestors could have recorded their views of those mysterious shining dots beyond the planet they lived on. The walls paintings of their cave are dated from 17 300 years. (Coiicidentally the star cluster I recognized to be pictographic of Thor’s hammer, one of the Norse favorite gods, and Pleiades a certain popularity amongst amateurs stargazers). Vikings were latitude sailors. Both Iceland and Greenland were due west from Norway, meaning they could set out from a part at the same lattitude and arrive at the land. They noted the star constellations, which ones passed close to the horizon and which crossed the zenith, using it to judge their bearings. So the stars, while moving had a subtle stasis to them, at least enough to look at them time and again without any radical changes while sailing and travelling. The navigation skill probably meant they had some loose form of celestial map of stars and stellar objects.

7 hvels/chakras of Bifrost, the rainbrow bridge


It has been postulated by some scholars that the Rainbow bridge in Nordic mythology, the one guarded by Heimdallr, may refer to the milky way. However, I have adapted my own personal understanding of it that may or may not lie in the true occult wisdom of the archetypal Bifrost. My studied of Tantric spirituality, and Hindu/Buddhist religion have unearthed the secrets of the chakra system. This itself, rooted in human biology and science. Essentially, the ‘chakras’ are glands found throughout the body, and there are known to be hundreds of them, depending on which physiologist you may ask. In Tantric meditation, there is an entire system based around 7 separate chakras, called the Kundalini. There are more potent stores or ‘wheels’ of revolving life energy, that when tapped into with deep meditation one can raise a serpent lying at the base of the first chakra, and make it ascend to the crown of the head (Sahasrara). In ascetic inner meditation, it is physically possible to control the nervous system, there is how the chakra system works within the self.  By focusing solely on one of the 7 glands that form the Kundalini, along the spine, up through the neck and to the crown, the internal energy of the body is refined to one place. The glands, being catalysts to how the body performs and each one fulfilling a certain function. From this I had the idea that the rainbow bridge of Bifrost, made of the same 7 colors of the chakras, leading from earth to the heavens is a cultural variation of the same principle.

The earth or ground in Teutonic religion is called Miðgarðr, and the heavens, Ásgarðr. Heimdall is one of the ‘godhead’ incarnate in Ásgarðr. Human beings dwell at all time on the Earth, but in Tantric ideology, even the profane can rise, with the spirit into a godlike state, divine and sacred. This occurs only in the Sahasrara or the crown chakra the very highest of the hvels. Heimdallr sacrificed one of his senses to Mimir, who holds the secrets of the runes (occult knowledge) in her well. He thus gains awareness of all the worlds, the multi-verse of the cosmology. He becomes as a seer with special abilities, from ‘Teutonic Religion’ by Kveldulf Gundarsson:

“He needs less sleep than a bird; he can see a hundred leagues by night as well as by day, and hear the grass growing in the fields and wool on the sheep. As well as being a warder, he is also a giver of wise and cunning redes”

The redes are advice which are given by ‘higher’ beings, meaning advices taken for the highest self, before coming back to the grounded existence to work weal. The runes themselves may be symbolic of some of the chakras. In the pictured depictions of the 3 realms of being, the serpent (Hindu version being kundalini) rests encircling the middle earth. The axis mundi, Yggdrasil could represent the spine? As physiologists know, it connects the who body, the central axis of all that is. As this is still my theory and I don’t have full knowledge of them, I think it is of worthy study.

Ansuz/Crown chakra/light purple: the esoteric interpretation is one of the Æsir, the higher beings.

Mannaz/Third Eye/violet: this chakra is given the qualities of numinous accord, creativity, and intellect. The Mannaz, meaning mankind. Separate from animal, the vessel of the mind. The Óðr of inspired mental activity.

Galdr/Throat chakra/blue: This may not have an exact runic equal, but could be related to galdrar, the chanting of a rune to fuse the energy of the materialistic body with the cognitive mind.

Wunjo/Heart chakra/green: Both of these are always associated with joy, and feeling. Affection or sensual love coming from the heart.

Sowilo/Solar Plexus/yellow: Esoteric interpretation of the solar energy or lightening. In the Elder Futhark, it stands for the universal will expressed through transitioning of the spiritual ‘hvels’. Hvel = chakra from Sanskrit. It ideographic picture is part of a turning wheel. :ᛋ:

Othala/Navel chakra/orange: Apparently Othala is likened to Midgard, the ‘middle’, and the navel is regarded as the middle by Tantrikas and in Hindu tradition. So there may be something there.

Gebo/Root-sex chakra/red: In Futhark by Edred Thorsson he writes…“Gebo contains the secrets of physically joining two people, in order that they may produce a creative power greater than their sum total” It is a rune of sex magic, that was used in Germanic times, so naturally would be associated with whatever glands are at that point of the body. It is the first source of the ecstasy, where the serpent lays coiled.

A lot of this may be quite far-fetched, for anyone reading this, and for me as well. My intentions as a vitki of the runes is to somehow find the practical within the mythological, and the modern wisdom from esoteric lore. Seeing things from many disciplines, such as a skeptical reductionist perspective, but also a spiritual gnosis is the only way I have been able to come to this theory and make it function in my life. I have read a couple very minimalistic articles about the parallels of the chakras to Bifrost.

The scientist in me says: By thinking of the energy stores located along the cervical spine and head, the nervous system is altered with a conscious effort and releases serotonin and DMT from the pineal gland in the forest, overloading the senses and transcending the material flesh.

The Tantric spiritual/Pagan in me says: Meditating on the essence incarnate at the ground of Miðgarðr;, one travels through the seven layers of Bifrost, discovering the occult symbolism of a special rune at each hvel. The coiled serpent Jǫrmungandr unraveling from earth and finally piercing through the last layer of the human being into one of the Ase (higher being symbolic of godhead) over their life.

In chapter 17 Gylfaginning, High tells Gangleri that the location of Himinbjörg (heaven peak) “stands at the edge where Bifrost reaches heaven.”While describing the god Heimdallr in chapter 27, High says that Heimdallr lives in Himinbjörg by Bifröst. The Hindus regard the mountain as the sacred peak that is the highest the human can go. The mountain as the archetype of a human peak, before ascended to the ‘god’ realm. There are probably other theories and perhaps even some more advanced or ‘proper’ texts written thousands of years ago about this by some Viking shaman, but this is what I got out of it. It is in the end, a tool for understanding ourselves, and we are all trying to make sense of things, because it is our primal need. If by embracing myth, one can more firmly grasp the fundamentals of life by it’s variations of reality, and make it more exciting, then one must take the horns and raise them.
